Jithubutu Social and Cultural Centre

Fundación Hatua / Jithubutu Social and Cultural Centre

Jithubutu Social and Cultural Centre is a non-profit project with which The Hatua Foundation collaborates. Jithubutu is an urban centre in the city of Arusha where young people, through activities such as dance, entrepreneurship workshops, language classes, computer classroom, library and board games, can share time and exchange skills.

Jithubutu is a Swahili word meaning “dare”. But dare to do what? Jithubutu means a change of mindset. To move from the defeatism and determinism of a way of living without aspiration to a new way of life where the future is a horizon with a perspective of change, growth and personal development.

And it is thanks to this mentality that the cultural and social centre has made it possible for people to freely share their experiences and knowledge so that everyone can grow through mutual help.

This implies an infrastructure and material means to create a safe, relaxed and friendly environment in which young people can spend their time away from the harmful environment of the street.

Based on their values and their desire to learn while having fun, they have different activities at the centre:

  • Dance
  • Language classes and entrepreneurship
  • Conversation sessions in different languages and discussions
  • IT
  • Workshops
  • Library and board games
  • Shows
  • Swahili classes for foreigners
  • Activities for kids

Join Jithubutu and help to carry out these activities or others such as helping with office tasks, social networking, improving their facilities or any other idea you would like to propose.
