How did Hatua come into being?

Fundación Hatua / How did Hatua come into being?

How Hatua was bornand its commitment to promoting projects through talent

In 2020, we made a trip to Africa that led us, by chance, to learn about the complicated history of the Leondson School and its headmaster Ibrahim, a Tanzanian teacher who struggled against all odds to run his neighbourhood school.

The Leondson School takes in 58 children from a poor neighbourhood in Arusha and not only offers them an education, but also tries to provide them with breakfast and lunch every day. Ibrahim carried out this arduous task with little or no means, and worked miracles to make ends meet. He had to give up his housing to sleep in the same school in order to save money. In addition, the pandemic aggravated the situation, leaving many parents without work and unable to pay for their children’s school meals.

After that inspiring visit, we decided to support Ibrahim, through our experience in business management accompanied by capital, with the aim of taking the school forward and making it self-sustainable. Privately and altruistically we provide the school with school supplies, improve all facilities and ensure a balanced and healthy daily menu for all children.

In no time the school was filled with joy, smiles and colour. Both Ibrahim and the staff continue to learn on a daily basis how to manage it and become self-sustainable. The commitment of the community and the neighbourhood to move this project forward has been remarkable and the results have been magnificent. Today 58 children receive education and food every day, but there is still a long way to go.

As a result of this wonderful project, The Hatua, a foundation that develops cooperation and aid projects all over the world, was born with the aim of expanding the fields of aid.

Hatua promotes concrete actions and strategies in which the main objective will be to accompany the project in question from point A to point B. Helping, training and providing everything necessary to people and communities so that they have the opportunity to be self-sufficient and prosper. There is a well-known Chinese proverb that inspired us from the beginning and it says: “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach him to fish and you feed him for the rest of his life”.

Among many actions, Hatua focuses on promoting and boosting education in places where inequality and poverty do not allow it; helping abused people or those at risk of social exclusion. It also collaborates with projects for the conservation of endangered wild species and the protection of the environment.

Hatua is looking for committed people who want to put their talents at the service of a cooperation project in order to carry it through.
